(Braintree, MA.) Mark R. Magowan, PLS, joined Dawood, an international engineering and technology firm, as Survey Manager in Braintree, Massachusetts. With over 40 years of land surveying experience, Magowan’s skills range from boundary determination and right-of-way to deed research, plan preparation, title insurance surveys, and bridge and highway reconstruction base plans.
“Mark’s distinguished career includes co-founding a surveying and engineering company, Ross Associates, where he delivered large-scale residential and commercial projects in the central Massachusetts area,” said Dawood Director of Survey Joab (Jody) Carter, PLS.
Returning to Dawood after an eight-year hiatus, Magowan worked for Surveying and Mapping Consultants (SMC), a Braintree company acquired by Dawood in 2018. “In his new role with us, Mark works closely with Dawood Survey Operations Manager Jim Wiswell to grow our municipal and commercial project portfolio throughout New England,” said Carter.
Magowan bridges technical work and community engagement by leading survey project presentations before Planning Boards, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Conservation Commissions throughout the greater Boston, Massachusetts, region.
“The variety and complexity of Dawood’s New England workload makes my new position exciting and dynamic,” said Magowan. “It’s rewarding to be back with a team I respect—since many of my former SMC colleagues are thriving with Dawood—working on projects that push technology boundaries for a company that supports work-life balance.”
As a merit badge instructor, Magowan will teach a Boy Scout Troop the basics of surveying and educate local youth on the industry’s importance this spring in Marshfield, Massachusetts. He is a member of the Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers, the New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association, and the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping.
