Our Spotlight series continues as we pay tribute to the veterans and active servicemembers who enrich our team with exceptional skills and experiences. Today, we highlight Geoffrey Rowsell, a committed CAD Drafter who has been with Dawood for 2 years. His military service spans 24 years, including time in the US Army and the National Guard, with deployments that brought him to Germany, the deserts of Iraq, and beyond.

How do your military skills apply to your role at Dawood?

My military service, especially in roles that required thorough attention to detail, aligns perfectly with my duties as a CAD Drafter. Skills like dependability, flexibility, and a strong work ethic are crucial when collaborating with field crews and project teams to deliver precise surveying data.

What aspect of your military experience do you wish more people understood?

I’d like the public to recognize that veterans offer a diverse array of skills. The military is not just about combat roles; it’s about the support roles too—engineers, surveyors, administrative staff—all adding immense value behind the scenes.

Could you share a project you’ve worked on at Dawood that you found particularly rewarding?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the project variety. From intricate survey plans for the National Grid to trailblazing Massachusetts Department of Transportation assignments, each one challenges me to leverage my military-honed skills to ensure precision and quality in our deliverables.

How do your leadership skills from the military benefit your work now?

Leadership in the military isn’t just about being in charge. It’s about being dependable, adaptable, and meticulous—qualities that I bring to my current position. These skills foster a work environment where reliability and attention to detail are paramount, in parallel with the dynamic and ever-evolving field of surveying.

How has your military background shaped your professional life?

Military service taught me always to put the team and the mission first, to think outside the box, and to adapt quickly to changing situations. These skills are invaluable in our fast-paced industry and help me contribute to Dawood’s mission of delivering top-notch services to our clients.
