Earlier this summer, Dawood Director of Planning and Economic Development John Mizerak discussed how municipal leaders can leverage public funding opportunities and transform municipal governments in a Pioneering Change Community (PCC) podcast. Mizerak provided some ideas on “The Art of Obtaining Grants,” which delved into:
- prioritizing projects such as Parks and Recreation improvements
- evaluating available grants and loans
- preparing applications and supporting documents
- building key stakeholder consensus
Dawood supports similar funding initiatives throughout Swatara Township, Dauphin County where a series of successful public funding awards and improvements that will build a regional park and improve connectivity with the Highland Street and Eisenhower Boulevard corridors. A part of this municipality’s corridor improvements, includes investments from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources ($8000,000 grant) and the Dauphin County Commissioners, ($328,800 grants); netting over $1 million dollars in public funds in the past 20 months—the specific success is the Township’s Bishop Park which is celebrated as a Park & Rec blueprint for success.
