As lead engineer for Bradford County, Dawood worked in conjunction with PennDOT District 3-0 to replace historic truss County Bridge #38 spanning Farm View Road over Seeley Creek in Wells Township, Pennsylvania. The new structure is a single-span, prestressed concrete spread box beam bridge on cast-in-place concrete cantilever abutments.
Dawood inspected the existing structurally deficient bridge and conducted alternative analyses considering adaptive reuse options ranging from widening, strengthening, and raising the vertical clearance to building a parallel bridge. Our team determined that rehabilitating the historic bridge was not feasible due to structural integrity concerns. Bridge Automated Design and Drafting (BRADD) was used to design the replacement structure and construction was performed under a full detour.
Today, the replacement box beam bridge meets local community safety, reliability, and accessibility needs—saving nearly 20 minutes of emergency response time by eliminating an 8-mile emergency vehicle detour previously required to reach residents on the east side of Seeley Creek.
