The Three C’s with Survey Vet Jim Wiswell

Based in Braintree, Massachusetts, Senior Survey Project Manager Jim Wiswell has more than 45 years of experience managing diverse mobile LiDAR, laser scanning, aerial, and conventional ground surveying projects.

From bridge replacement, road, railroad, and water and sewer main infrastructure to electric substation condition, transmission line and right-of-way surveys, Jim expertly integrates data sources to prepare survey base maps.

What do you enjoy the most at Dawood?

Jim: Interacting with colleagues on projects—that’s what makes working at Dawood gratifying. As a senior project manager, I work on multiple assignments at any given time. Some are long duration, while others have a quick turnaround—but none could be completed without the Dawood team’s collaborative efforts.

With a career spanning six decades, what’s your marquee project?

Jim: Hard to say, because I’ve worked with such a variety of partners and clients, but probably one of the larger mapping projects or Survey Control Networks. The challenges with large-scale programs are the numerous tasks and multiple personnel involved, along with different sources of information received in-house or from subconsultants or clients. I’m a firm believer in Collaboration, Communication, and Cooperation to overcome all obstacles!

Your interests outside of work include…

Jim: I enjoy spending time with family, hiking, camping, and kayaking. It’s all about enjoying the outdoors, exploring, and reconnecting with nature. When camping along the ocean, you have a front row seat to sand and surf. Views from New Hampshire’s White Mountains are spectacular and great for hiking…when kayaking and rafting, The Forks in Maine or Deerfield River in Massachusetts are exhilarating!
