Read Part Two – Harnessing Geospatial Technology
As part of our summer spotlight series, Dawood’s Director of Geospatial Technologies, Jodie Gosselin, GISP, shares her experience from the 2023 Esri User Conference (UC). Jodie describes how her passion for leading with innovation was reignited, and how geospatial technologies are poised to transform the AEC sector.
The UC Plenary always features an exciting exchange of groundbreaking ideas—what was one of your takeaways?
The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) substation inspection tool—integrating the capabilities of LiDAR point clouds, high-resolution imagery, and video—has revolutionized asset visualization and inspection. As a result, PG&E has increased efficiency 100%. That’s impressive! Their real-time solution enables immediate work order issuance from the online viewer, highlighting PG&E’s staunch commitment to safety.
Why does this resonate?
Integral to Dawood’s “lead with technology mantra” is how we leverage scanning, drones, building information modeling (BIM), and geospatial tools to strengthen operations and magnify the importance of our #ThinkSafetyFirst culture. As an engineering and technology consultant and Esri Silver Partner, Dawood works collaboratively with utility clients to place the power of GIS in the hands of employees.
Can you cite an example?
Our Esri award-winning geo-enabled land management solution for Southern Company Gas (SCG) was published in the 2023 Esri Map Book, unveiled during the UC. The GIS portal empowers SCG’s project team—executives, managers, land agents, and consultants—to access, integrate, analyze, and visualize easement acquisition information in real time and make informed business decisions. Our technology team takes pride in empowering clients with GIS solutions that redefine the AEC sectors.
