Dawood Hires Gray and Argall, Deepens Subsurface Utility Engineering Solutions

Dawood, an international engineering and technology firm, hired Michael Gray as subsurface utility engineering (SUE) manager and Mitchell Argall as SUE operations manager to lead the company’s growing subsurface utility engineering (SUE) division. SUE empowers Dawood clients to depict underground utilities through noninvasive methods.

“With nearly 50 years of combined experience, Michael and Mitchell strengthen our in-house surveying capabilities with SUE solutions—minimizing schedule and cost overruns caused by unforeseen buried utilities and enhancing worksite safety,” said Joab Carter, PLS, senior survey manager with Dawood.

SUE enables Dawood to better manage risks by designating a utility’s horizontal position through geophysical processes. Gray and Argall integrate geophysics with surveying and mapping to deliver SUE projects throughout the utility and energy sectors, including damage prevention and investigation, compliance auditing, line identification, leak detection, and meter maintenance for gas and electric customers.

“Dawood Engineering is fortunate to bring onboard experienced locators such as Michael and Mitchell,” said Jim Rodgers, Chief Strategic Officer for Dawood. “Their acumen and training enhance our team’s ability to deliver accurate data that may save a life and mitigate asset damage risk for our utility customers.”

In 2018, Gray created a groundbreaking educational program for SUE field technicians—providing necessary principles involving reading prints, magnetic theory, electric and communications grids, gas pipeline distribution, and Autodesk AutoCAD software. Instruction included utility global positioning system locating processes, damage prevention, and line identification.
