Danielle Derolf, PE, Named American Society of Highway Engineers 2024 Young Member of the Year

(Harrisburg, Pa.) Dawood Highway Engineer Danielle Derolf, PE, received American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) 2024 Young Member of the Year honors during the ASHE National Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina. 

We’re thrilled that Danielle has been honored by ASHE, recognizing her stellar engineering performance and accomplishments in her community. Danielle demonstrates a rare combination of technical expertise, problem solving, and a genuine passion for her work—from project management and design to industry engagement.

Derolf—an active member of ASHE, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS)—leads Pennsylvania infrastructure improvement projects for Dawood, an international engineering and technology firm. 

A licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Virginia, Derolf is also an integral part of Dawood’s municipal engineering team delivering solutions throughout the greater Harrisburg region. In 2023, she managed $400,000 in paving and American Disabilities Act (ADA) projects through construction and $2.1 million in roadway reconstruction, stormwater, and pedestrian safety efforts for the Borough of New Cumberland and Swatara Township, respectively. 

As lead engineer for Carlisle Borough’s Bedford Street Traffic Calming initiative, Danielle was commended for an on-site demonstration of future curb extensions with the local fire department as part of the $200,000 Phase One effort. As a result, Dawood was awarded Phase Two work that she manages involving conceptual designs for 1.5 miles of traffic calming and bike lane improvements.

Danielle Derolf, PE, presented traffic calming conceptual design options to Carlisle Borough residents during project open house.

In a similar role, Derolf developed an innovative contraflow left turn-lane configuration at the PA 147 and SR 322 interchange and three alternative intersection designs at the SR 322 and US 11/15 interchange—both part of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Clark’s Ferry Improvements/ Riverlands Safety Implementation Project in Dauphin County. 

As ASHE Harrisburg Second Vice President, Derolf will chair the 2024/2025 scholarship committee. A past WTS Washington, D.C., board member and WTS Central Pennsylvania membership chair, Derolf also served on the ITE Mid-Colonial District conference planning committee.  

Derolf has been involved with ITE since joining the student chapter at The Pennsylvania State University, where she attained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering. Additionally, she volunteers as an alumni interviewer for the Penn State Schreyer Honors College admissions office. 

In her community, Derolf serves on the Elizabethtown Borough planning commission, applying her acumen to promote responsible development. As a Donegal High School STEM summit volunteer, she helped students understand math concepts.
