ToolBox Talk: Emergency Preparedness for the Workplace

Are your employees prepared to handle common workplace emergencies? First-aid, small fires, or vehicle breakdowns could all happen at any moment. It’s vital to be prepared for these types of situations! Your employees should be outfitted with the right equipment and trained how to respond.

Understand the Risks

According to the National Fire Data Center, there are more than 170,000 highway vehicle fires each year – knowing how to safely extinguish a small fire can help prevent a much bigger problem.

Agero Insights reports that each year roughly 69 million vehicles break down while driving. Too many pedestrians and first responders were killed alongside the road during breakdowns and roadside emergencies, resulting in many states enacting a Move Over, Slow Down law.

Keys to Keep You Safe

  • Train employees how to administer basic first aid and ensure they can access a stocked first-aid kit at work.
  • Ensure your workforce knows how to use a fire extinguisher and when its too late to combat the fire, call 911
  • Outfit your company vehicles with roadside emergency kits. Make sure employees can access  traffic signals like strobe LED lights and reflective triangles. This will help other drivers see the broken-down vehicle so they can slow down.

For example, Dawood outfitted all company vehicles with brand new first-aid kits, fire extinguishers and roadside emergency kits. All of our employees are trained how to use this emergency equipment during their onboarding period.
