Surveyors Week 2022: Anthony Falbo

National Surveyors Week (March 20-26, 2022) was created by the National Society of Professional Surveyors to celebrate the surveying profession, which often goes unrecognized. This week, Dawood is shining a spotlight on some of our surveyors to highlight the breadth of knowledge and experience among our staff. Today, we speak Anthony Falbo, Sr. Project Manager in our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, region.

Hi Anthony! Please tell us a little bit about how you got into the surveying field and what your current position at Dawood is like.

I was introduced to surveying in college and was attracted to the idea of being able to be part of projects from beginning to end. I like the field and office mix that the profession allows for.  I find it very rewarding.

Currently, I direct and review land survey work performed by Dawood in the Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio tri-state area. My primary responsibilities are to ensure that necessary resources are available to meet project schedules, and to oversee quality assurance/quality control for all of Dawood’s survey deliverables. I have over 16 years of experience providing geospatial services on a wide range of projects in both the public and private sectors.

What’s so special about surveying and how does it motivate you?

I’m motivated by team building, sharing my knowledge, and learning from others—I feel that’s my responsibility and obligation to those who took the time and effort to mentor me over the years.  I love new challenges because they present an opportunity to learn and grow for us all.

Tells us about one or two of your favorite projects and what makes them stand out to you.

My favorite project, to this point, has been the survey of a local historic college building—Bentley Hall at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the project was to provide base map and existing conditions for building restoration. The nearly 200-year-old structure had fallen into a poor state. My survey group performed exterior and interior scanning and UAS building photogrammetry. We then processed the data and merged it into a digital model for engineers and architects. I’m proud of the work that we produced and the fact that we helped to save an historic structure.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I enjoy vacationing, hiking, attending concerts and spending my free time with my wife and two children. I am also a proud member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity and enjoy giving back to my community through charitable giving.
