Dawood Achieves Subsurface Utility Engineering Credentials in Massachusetts

Dawood, an international surveying technology and engineering firm, has been pre-qualified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) to perform subsurface utility engineering (SUE) assignments throughout the state. SUE depicts detailed underground infrastructure data to support engineering design that minimizes project delays.

“Our ability to provide SUE services in Massachusetts is a game changer, and the latest example of how we’re enhancing our leading-edge surveying technology solutions that we’ve been delivering to the region for more than 33 years,” said Dawood New England and Europe Business Development Manager Kevin Hanley, PLS.

In December 2021, MassDOT issued an engineering directive requiring new SUE-related Massachusetts projects to include QL-B provisions performed only by pre-qualified consultants. Dawood expanded its SUE investigation offerings in July 2022 by hiring industry veterans Michael Gray and Mitchell Argall.

“Well-positioned for success and averaging 30 years of experience, our leadership team now has the green light from MassDOT to safely and efficiently advance surveying technologies throughout New England’s most populous state,” said Dawood Chief Strategic Officer Jim Rodgers.

SUE is a quality-driven process to locate, map, and illustrate utilities in preliminary project stages. It combines geophysics, surveying, civil engineering, and nondestructive excavation techniques to avoid utility conflicts.
